Micaela Canales (she/her) is a Student Nurse-Midwife studying under Jackie Griggs, CNM. Her philosophy is that you know your body best, and that birth is a sacred, transformative, empowering event. Micaela’s passion for sexual and reproductive healthcare is lifelong and led her to reproductive justice organizing and work as a registered nurse in high risk obstetrics for Ben Taub Hospital. Her experience includes supporting more than 300 families in birth and more than 1000 precepted clinical hours in birth centers, homebirth, and hospitals. She completed her undergraduate degree in Anthropology and International Policy Studies with a focus on gender and sexuality at Rice University as well as undergraduate nursing degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She is licensed as a registered nurse in Texas and certified in in-patient obstetrics nursing.
